if possible it's also good to do internships. a second way in which I got lucky was that I went to school in Seattle a solid half of my class got Amazon contract work and that was very helpful in an industry job search

regardless make an exit plan that does not involve getting lucky in your research program and then getting lucky in the academic job market university positions are probably only gonna become scarcer owing to demographics unless they can import the entire world
