the first was on a bus ride up to duluth i looked out over the rolling prairie and suddenly though to myself. "why work for the man when you could be. the man" longterm i did not actually manage this but i did add an economics major to my degree when i got back to my apartment

the only place where I think academia can work out financially is business schools (top 50 b-school profs get paid well) and probably computer science (can consult in summers and competition from big tech keeps salaries high)

seems like the rational decision for me is to keep the econposting as a hobby and focus on CS. or at least stay far away from econ academia

you could do econometrics and mix in MLE from there if you wanted, that seems to pay extremely well
