wonder what would happen if you ran a test like this for other cases of severe illness, perhaps where patients were hooked up to ventilators and/or almost died of course similar results there would not necessarily invalidate long covid claims but it might be interesting

Yeah, I'm not convinced that this isn't: 1. The ones who end up on ventilators aren't as smart as those who don't. (Ie. Not as smart to begin with) 2. Bad aggregation, most people are cognitively fine, but the few strokes completely destroy the stats. Need the distribution.

That's my issue with it. Not sure how they can extrapolate from population level data without pre-COVID benchmarks to measure against

well it depends on which assumptions you're willing to make they do take a crack at trying to get better resolution but this evidence at least doesnt contradict the possibility of cognitive damage like it's what you would expect to see if that damage were real
