they divorce. shenanigans ensue. at the end of the movie, the two are reunited to live happily ever after. the issue of domestic violence is never addressed between the two of them.

barely five minutes into the movie, Hepburn sprays a bit of her Uncle Willie's favorite perfume on a handkerchief and wafts it in his face as a prank. he gropes her. when she protests, he replies "never play with fire, child." that is the end of the incident.

not sure where im going with this. the past is a foreign country, i guess. im not sure domestic violence and sexual assault are any more or less prevalent now than they were then, but they are certainly portrayed differently in cultural artifacts these days.

Fun fact Its more dangerous to be a cops wife than it is to be a cop, on a per capita injury rate

~800k cops with 17,188 injuries = 2.1% injury rate 40% of police commit domestic violence: https://www.fatherly.com/love-money/police-brutality-and-domestic-violence/ … so uh 20x more dangerous to be a spouse or child of a cop than to actually be a cop

Repeat to yourself "It's just a show (from a time before I was socially aware). I should really just relax"
