the anxiety in defensiveness comes because the person isn't certain about their culpability, i think thinking of times I was truly surprised by an accusation, I felt more shocked than defensive but narrative uncertainty gets us spooked

I think there's semantic confusion going on. To me "being defensive" means trying to defend yourself, not a psychological state.
