saints are interesting in that they comprise a class of people whom everyone praises but very few emulate further, this is not because of an obvious _inability_ to emulate them in the usual sense of ability just conduct yourself in an immaculate manner. lol

so the question of "why don't you just be a saint" is not one that most people can really be comfortable answering

Oh man now you're really talking my language I think you're underselling our inability to "just act a certain way" which is very real. Nevertheless, a truly righteous Saint (in Judaism the Tzaddik) is not saintly by thought speech or action but for total destruction of the ego

if we're raising the Jewish tradition... One of the "key" precepts/commandments is "Do not turn after your heart or eyes, that which you whore after" - the English translation sucks balls, Hebrew is a layered rich language - but the idea being "don't get lost in your desires"

Even if those desires may be for good!

But to zoom in on emotions and perception (heart and eyes) and in that order suggests a certain understanding of the psyche - what we feel colors what we see, and what you want colors how you feel - take care to want right, to feel right, to see right, to do right

There's an ethical treatise called Mesilat Yesharim (or "The Path of the Righteous") which expands on this in great detail. Eigen you may very much enjoy the introduction :)
