and yet shit popped off everywhere fairly rapidly yeah ok there were lots of existing underlying tensions in various places but they went years, decades without mattering much and then suddenly they all mattered at the same time?

I acknowledge this as mayb self-centered but just pinging that for scale I think we barely had riots in Barcelona, smaller than the typical one in US I bet, and over curfews not lockdowns. most of Europe like this I think

What’s the base rate of civil unrest? I agree it’s easy to remember a lot of incidences in the past two years, but also it’s easy to remember a lot of things from the past two years, since they are in fact the most recent years.

Not suggesting there wasn’t extra much unrest, but I’m basically updating zero based on the fact that I can remember a bunch of recent shit. Until someone compares it to a longer trend I’m entirely agnostic.
