U ain’t wrong but I can’t tell if ur also unreasonably wanting our society’s social norms to b different than they are(bc people are in fact crazy & being dicks to ur friend) I think of the reaction like ancestral memory of aristocratic abuse + America gaslighting us on equality

Sthg sthg ‘it is the right of the weaker (the poorer) to emotionally lash out at the stronger (richer) for lacking the prescience to go above & beyond in terms of respect for the less well off ‘. We don’t get taught noblesse oblige & should be Unfair to the fortunate by design

It is ALSO incumbent upon decent folk who don’t want to be or feel crazy to get over their derangement syndromes… the sort of thing that it helps to have luxurious free time to do. U may have thought of all this & heard too many takes overall but thought I’d put it out there.

naw I agree generally. nb, I dont expect norms to change, tho I do think theyre dumb I think QC is in a weird place as the kid of immigrants--i wonder if the set of norms one might absorb as part of an Established Family in the US didnt come through to him

maybe we just disagree in that for chesterton reasons and weird psychology reasons i'm not sure those norms are dumb (not sure they're not but inclined to take them pretty seriously)
