how did Europeans socially, culturally, intellectually respond to gunpowder in the late medieval era seems like this was a real new thing under the sun and im curious how everyone took it
I know about all that im just imagining that even the existence of such a technology might have felt like a major break from a period where there was not much dramatic technological innovation at all (although there was lots of subtle development)

Right, but I think the general concept of explosives (especially pre-corning) probably weren’t even regarded as a significant technological advancement, possibly for hundreds of years.
