I was put on the pill at 17, years before I became sexually active, because I had painful periods. I went through my entire adolescent identity-formation period, and then some, before learning a whole lot of women experienced — as I did — extreme mood instability & lack of libido

I’ve chosen not to date anyone using hormonal birth control, for many, many years, now. (It correlates with other stuff, but, if contextually chill, I explain why, in a collaborative, non-ultimatum-y way. Sometimes it’s medically nonoptional, ofc.) Manifold reasons.

I’ve had friends w the opposite experience — life was horrible until they were on the pill, the much better after. Mood swings reduced, weight loss, energy increase. My guess is that it’s based on natural hormonal levels, but of course no one checks that before an Rx.
