are they trying to do something like increase E[i] where E[i] is a function of a bunch of lagged terms so they think letting inflation run hot for a decade will correct these expectations that seems insane

it’s not the same thing exactly but this reminds me of how the people who ran the City of Detroit pension plan would pay out anything the fund made over the projected rate of return in a given year & then wondered why the fund tanked and everyone hated them when the RoR was short

I remember Marty saying years ago that the the Fed has been overzealous about combatting inflation and that this has likely resulted in trillions in lost economic growth. Not sure this is the right way of addressing that issue, though.
