I distinctly remember in 2014 it being on obvious based on who you knew were going to Stanford for a masters in CS that it was clearly just how Stanford was making extra money

the alternatives were just much much better and attracting much more qualified people - straight into industry - phd program with option to masters out - part time masters laid by company
