I think the true key to weight loss is to arrange your living situation such that you end up skipping a whole lot of meals out of sheer absentmindedness

I did not gain weight in college partly because of ROTC, but mostly because of living in a suburban neighborhood far out of walking distance of any restaurant and if I wanted to go anywhere I had to dig my car out, so it was either shovel snow, eat peanut butter, or starve.
