whats funny as i reflect is that this was explicitly what pride was intended to oppose "do what you want just dont tell me about it" as an attitude was rejected I think (this is my vague recollection) because it emblemized the shame of the closethttps://twitter.com/eigenrobot/status/1411493226037477384 …

I’m thinking the pride/closet premise promoted LGBT culture by asserting a strongly hereditarian framing of sexuality that factored out personal responsibility in order to render its practitioners beyond reproach. Since we are more hedonistic/ less reproachful now this is unecces

It’s not about letting people be prideful anymore, it’s about letting people be prideful as easily as possible by ensuring there can be 0 opposition to their prideful behavior in any spaces

The concept of pride itself really irks me but perhaps it has colloquial uses as hypothesized.

I think the concept of pride is more mainstream now than in the 80s sure. But as with anything that becomes commercialized, it doesn't reflect a change in lived experiences esp for minority groups within the queer umbrella.

I think this can be said for just about anything that's intended to be disruptive but gets diluted over time. It's bittersweet because change is nice, but things have changed most positively for those most likely to have been accepted anyways.
