i can make no claims about the current absolute difficulties faced by sexual minorities in living openly but surely one can agree that whatever the level of difficulty there is uniformly less of it than existed in say the 80s

yes, the distinction that people have difficulty drawing (in part because it actually can be difficult sometimes) is "ordinary amount of sharing just of something unusual" versus "oversharing"
