related: if you use a portable AC unit the plastic exhaust hose gets hot, which means some of the gains from the unit are dissipated immediately. always use the minimum hose range. I further mitigated this with improvised insulationpic.twitter.com/0Y8EWuu8Kw

ok final treatment of the main room. the Chinese plastic foil was a pain to cut with precision given my tools, so I used that for large areas and touched up with aluminum foil (ht

I may unplug our refrigerator at peak heat tomorrow and replug it in at night. can pack the important frozen stuff into the deep freeze in the other room. Everything should keep for a few hours at least, and it would take pressure off the AC.

Fifty, Foul, A Sly Drunk @FunkyDuffyReplying to @eigenrobotThe Poor of the Sunbelt have a particular affinity for aluminum foil. Make sure you use the shiny side and not the dull side. Small sections with enough scotch tape to keep everything flush to the glass. You may want to consider prioritizing windows on the west side instead.4 replies 0 retweets 59 likesShow this thread -

no idea what winds are like for you, but putting the foil on the outside should be pretty helpful as well lots of windows are designed to reflect IR, and the foil is bound to get hot. don't want to trap that inside if possible

aluminum is also very reflective in the IR range, so there shouldn't be big drawbacks when the sun first hits i think

ahhhh interesting. unfortunately probably tough to get it on the outside at this place :/

damn, inside should still be quite good though just spitballing, but relative perf should get quite complicated (eg does the air between the foil and window get replaced by the wind regularly) diff might not be *that* large depending on conditions, but idk

Tape stuff on the outside is not just hard but also impractical to get rid of later. Makeshift shutters of foil taped on cardboard is easier to handle.
