Probably the worst kind of dilemma one could have. There are no good answers. I've heard of stories where the dads killed themselves. But living a lie in the palm of the hand of a spouse wearing a mask, is that truly living? I'm in the truth camp. Withholding it is patronizing.

the downside risk is huge for her dad and I don't see much upside what would he gain from this

Anything I would come up with would only be speculation. They divorced ? Could help his case. Laws could favor him for inheritance. It could comfort his past decision to divorce a cheater. The thing is, that's not for me to decide in any case; that's the patronizing part.

it sounds like all of the divorce stuff closed ages ago and i dont think you can claw back child support. its hard for me to see how inheritance plays into this at all

There are unknown unknowns and I am not omniscient. I believe I can't go wrong by telling the truth, as the consequences down the line will be better. What if the daughter gets in an accident, needs an AB+ blood transfusion, and her blood type is different from both her parents?
