now that we have baby, my skepticism of the US education system is kicking into high gear having a hard time distinguishing legitimate concerns from paranoia; the whole system feels pretty rotten for several reasons feels like any nontraditional path is a likely improvement

i fear school inculcates kids to conformity, extrinsic motivation, waiting for direction, and ... low creativity, maybe? but this is a smug and insulting take from someone who never went to school. im an unreliable observer :/ guess we have a few yrs to figure it out.

there's a lot of variation across schools. and probably over time. my impression is that schools generally and broadly have been getting worse at all levels and I am concerned about how best to mitigate this for my kids.

but it also seems as though things are changing so quickly there's no way to really plan in concrete terms, only to keep optionality
