poll thread I think everyone thinks genocide is bad but im not sure its a coherent idea in a lot of wayshttps://twitter.com/acidshill/status/1406489105991495683 …

also interesting is that people have been shitty in the opposite direction about this in the past, eg the clinton administration acknowledging "acts of genocide" in Rwanda but not "genocide" which is in my mind more quintessentially clintonian than the definition of "is"

maybe we could try to make it clearer but I dont think this is really going to help things in practical terms because reality is n e b u l o u s and the salient cases are all going to be determined by brute politics anyway

i'm sad to say that the word 'genocide' has lost some of its meaning due to (stupid) politics

the word has been broken by conflationary usage imo, like much of English is “attempted genocide” still genocide? extinction of the dodo bird, now there’s a genocide

I think broading a term is almost always bad as it just makes communication harder in the long run. Make different words for different things damn it. On the flipside, people broaden definitions so often I feel slightly silly for sticking to this position, so what do I know?
