theres been a bunch of genocide creep lately. like ok the Holocaust was clearly genocide. or Rwanda. but the term is getting used more broadly I think honestly because of its effectiveness politically. and im not sure thats bad because alot of the cases where its used are awful

also interesting is that people have been shitty in the opposite direction about this in the past, eg the clinton administration acknowledging "acts of genocide" in Rwanda but not "genocide" which is in my mind more quintessentially clintonian than the definition of "is"

maybe we could try to make it clearer but I dont think this is really going to help things in practical terms because reality is n e b u l o u s and the salient cases are all going to be determined by brute politics anyway

Genocide is the extinguishing of a people. Peoples are neither mimetic nor genetic groups per se, but a unique grouping which typically reproduces both genetically and mimetically.

It’s best thought of as a well connected graph of familial and relationship connections. That is to say you will have fewer familial connections to other peoples than within it.

Idk man I consider the eradication of smallpox genocide so I think we have room for precise definitions while still contesting the morality of it in particular cases. (Genociding disease good, genociding human subgroups bad.)

Genociding robots would be worst of all but y'all don't have genes. Mostly.
