how much of the joy of expensive dining is the fact that you know you paid top dollar so your mind won't let you think that it's not that good

I enjoy a good meal and I'm prepared to pay for it. However I abhor the 'tasting menu' stuff. That just strikes me as food performance art, and I'm not into performance art.

i actually like omakase i think, but only if i'm right in front of the chef

Every time I tried expensive dining, I have become a patron of an expensive restaurant thinking about the food's worth and whether the experience was "worth it", which is a type I guy I'm not inclined to be. When I cook steak at home for my family, I am a cooler type of guy, IMO.
