one thing that fell out of the @robertwrighter podcast with a guy who wrote a book on the Uyghurs is that much of the forced sterilization happening in xinjiang is _reportedly_ the result of xinjiang being brought into line with sterilization in the rest of china

and its like "is forced sterilization of an ethnic group less bad if its the result of the forced sterilization of everyone" is an interesting problem to rotate especially because apparently people havent been pissed about china doing it to han women

one consistent position is that the CCP has been genociding the han people but that doesnt seem quite right because can a group really be said to genocide itself. that feels weird

so maybe typing this all out im thinking that the issue is with the definition of "genocide" which describes something that is clearly more horrific than random background murder or like equivalent amounts of automobile deaths
