from what I've heard 'latine' is the more-preferred gender neutral term since it's actually linguistically coherent

"Latine" has been overruled by
@RealAcademiaES. The version I saw in Colombia (and a little online) is "Latin@", which is perfect for our extremely online age.

In spanish we pronounce it like an E, so "latine", but there's been some discourse advocating to spell it with an e instead of an x, so text to speech algorithms can read it properly.
