Mike BirdVerified account @BirdywordExtremely skeptical that this will have a meaningful impact on demographics, but from an economic perspective even if it did, you wouldn't see the impact on the labour market for decades. In fact, it would actually increase the dependency ratio in the short-run. https://twitter.com/JeromeTaylor/status/1399262518887915523 …Show this thread2 replies 0 retweets 20 likesShow this thread -

good point about data quality hmm I dunno I mean how many kids can one really raise on a 996 schedule? (no idea how common that is)https://twitter.com/DictatorClass/status/1399650324328030208?s=19 …

Dictator Class Cruiser @DictatorClassReplying to @eigenrobotNo, it didn't. China's birth rate went up slightly, but still below replacement, and then went back down. And that's according to their official statistics, which we all know can't be trusted. Independent analysts claim China's birth rates are even worse than claimed.2 replies 1 retweet 17 likesShow this thread -

Evil (Political) Scientist @knrd_zReplying to @eigenrobotTwo-cent anecdote since I've had two convos about this tonight: won't do much. Young ppl feel like they won't have time/money for it, and there's worry among young women this will hurt them bc employers will turn them down more (they don't want women who will need 'breaks')2 replies 0 retweets 13 likesShow this thread -

I agree that the policy *in itself* might not change much -- just allows a small % of families w unusual preferences to have more. BUT I think it signals a major shift in Chinese gov policy -- a sign that the govt will start allocating resorces and respect to big families/kids

Would be open to a bet that Chinese rate will be higher in 5 or 10 years than it is now.

hmm. I would be open to this as well if there were some way of getting reliable data.
