the thing is that your children are in a lot of ways infinitely more interesting than other stuff and so you end up biasing your thoughts toward them, which is subjectively scintillating but doesnt really translate well across kinship groups

Actually I always wanted to be the distant sun, understanding yet stern in turns, who my children seek to eclipse, living in fear of the depth and breadth of my rich mahogany bookcases.

Closer to our approach. Parents too often seek to be part of their children's lives. Having no good examples myself, we were the center and invited them into our world, and in doing so, we were more interesting because of serving them in this way. Will do a video on this soon.

I never thought that because my parents weren't boring. Almost by accident they've been pretty much perfect parents when I think about it.
