Florida has a long history of non-compete clauses. They were all over the construction industry in the 80s/90s. They were severe and tried to enforce being able to work for only one company. If the company went bust you'd have to leave FL to work again

Probably an easier sell to get everyone from every university on the east coast to come down to Miami rather than NYC.

do non-compete clauses even need an explicit ban? I've been under the impression that it's a scare tactic and they're almost universally unenforceable and don't hold up in court
