Have any serious epistemologists talked about PMS? I'm guessing no, as philosophy is such a male-dominated field, plus this topic has been taboo. What about similar issues, like perception change when one hasn’t eaten nnnnnnnnnnn n?

I had taken for granted that PMS was fake. I couldn’t imagine how chemicals could affect what seemed like such an ideas-based thing like emotion. Now I’ve entered my 30s (when apparently it kicks in!), I’ve got the real problem of trying to tell the difference.

PMS is like the single biggest argument I have against the post-rationalist or feelings-oriented approach to life/therapy. Sometimes, it’s just biology and you need to think your way through something because intuitions and feeling-signals are clouded. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, recognizing the effect of chemical baselines (which can also be done by paying attention to what seems true when on drugs, including alcohol & caffeine) implies a need for a huge level up in reasoning about implications. Still underlying coherence.https://twitter.com/Malcolm_Ocean/status/1381698549524570113 …

every experience you've ever had was real but almost none of them imply what you think they imply nor do they imply what other people claimed they imply

Yes. I've been thinking a lot lately about what feels *important*, and what feels *insightful*, not just what feels *true*. Especially how malleable these aspects are. The direction of our attention being a huge driving force for our life, this seems criminally underdiscussed!

I’m getting dangerously close to believing importance is completely arbitrary, it’s just what people want which is super influenced by hormones/chemicals. :/ If it’s good to do what you want(=partly arbitrary), how can this be resolved with moral realism? D: @DavidDeutschOxf

Haha yeah it's a well-known property of psychedelics that ppl who are on them tend to experience feelings of insight which are correlated—but only loosely—with any later sense of the importance of that particular thought. seems to me that they might do that in the long-term "monocausal" is not quite the thing, more just like, overlearning the importance of some particular thing produces similar excitement to your monocausal tweet
