is there a parenting style that is distinctly millenial? like boomers wanted to be their kids friends (or was that the silent generation) whereas greatest generation was gruff and distant because they all had ptsd

Old houses, old doors, no locks. Door closed -> Do Not Go In
-
This is a thing, yes, esp used to be in Japan with the sliding doors I've heard. But I've also heard it recently in a 'we can get locks but choose not to because teenagers shouldn't have locks' which blew my mind.

I had locks but was not allowed to lock. My parents did explain it was because of raising my birth mom. She'd lock the door to do bad stuff so they were paranoid. At least they told me why they hated it
-
Yeah, good to tell you at least! And also one of those things that...like, it makes sense to me that in many situations & for many kids it would be preferable not to have locks but if the default is to have locks it makes it tough to veer from that path.

They might be doing a cannabis or sacrificing a goat, or playing D&D! I heard a version of this called "panopticon style parenting". https://ro.ecu.edu.au/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6076&context=ecuworkspost2013 …
