the reason people actually get upset about their favorite artist being an asshole is that resonate with the shape of a creator's mind when you appreciate their work and then bam it turns out that that person wasnt who you thought they were and its both betrayal and revulsion

i dont think you can I think you have to just reckon with the fact that someone who has created something that makes you feel seen and understood is also someone who can be monstrous in other wayspic.twitter.com/Xu5TbaRy3g

death of the author is easier when there isn’t an ecosystem or expectation of parasocial relationships with authors

death of the author sucks and it's annoying the way people who believe it try to invoke it against you as if it's a law of physics or something, rather than an opinion

The author being still alive as a person is the main reason I don't buy into the whole "separate the art etc". Engaging with their art enables their terrible behaviors if only through promotion of their work.

If you print on your book in 24pt Impact Bold "BTW I ADVOCATE FOR [horrible thing here]" on every page you can't just tell me "Just don't read that part of the page" - yet doesn't knowing that about the author have the same effect?
