the thing that bugs me about this is that this just seems like an unambiguously good thing but every time one of these comments is made about an ethnic group it feels like it somehow reduces it

i think doing it is objectively good and one of the most important things that people can do. and feeling good about doing it more than usual maybe demeans the purity of friendship absent this contextual consideration

I think you're overthinking it; my white, conservative father absolutely adores spicy Asian food, and so do I, consequently. How he got a taste for it I don't know, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was from his work friends. He's not doing it to keep up appearances

i think at some point as a kid I actually did thing eating with chopsticks made you more cultured lol. like it felt like an exciting challenge to learn how to use them and i think i unironically (i was not capable of irony then) was proud of it when i was like 12
