It's not that crazy to divide all of human intellectual history into pre and post-Darwin, so kind of. Also, I think Enlightenment thinking had moved pretty well into fogeyism by that point. It had its defenders but it still has defenders now.

I think this is an illusion. The increasing acceptance of Darwin's theory among the regular person in the developed world does mark something of a break, and that took decades after Darwin proposed it and continues today. 1/2

But in terms of intelectually leaving God behind as a society, many (if not most) later Enlightment theorists had embraced Deism for quite a while already. The radical claims of the Enlightment in a sense required for there to not be an active God that could say otherwise. 2/2
