My professor used that word on a game theory exam, and all the non-native english foreign students got really uncomfortable and kept going up and asking questions, and the professor clarified the word meaning for the class.

It works fine if you use it at the beginning of the sentence, compare I ate thrice today (did you mean rice?) Thrice, I ate (cool) I called three times before getting through Thrice I summoned you before receiving a response!
