I'm not sold on the objecting in the original tweet/thread. 1. Grandparents have always been a thing 2. We have a nanny who started 2 weeks after Leah and that certainly seemed fine

Neither of those are "daycare", but the original framing was about some need for constant mothering by the parents specifically, not a worry that day care is low quality relative to more intensive(?) child care options.

There has never been a period in the West where "full/most time mother" has been a thing. Running a home and - often - contributing economically made it impossible. Unless you think 90% of mothers in the 16th-18th century were negligent?
