Also lol, the french military, most people's feelings about them is "well they exist I guess, it's a job, maybe a bit risky". None of that american reverence for "veterans". Where and when was french infantry last deployed in numbers? It's all humanitarian and peacekeeping stuff.

The french have a lot less attachment to their current form of government than we do. Americas incredibly consistent and stable government, interrupted only once by the politest and least impactful civil war in history, like a lot of things, gives us a really skewed perspective
