yeah some of the angry QTs had me thinking that aggressive social dechristianization was a big mistake independent of ones belief in christianity maybe people need transcendent direction to become good and the gospel does this efficientlyhttps://twitter.com/00lshr/status/1387231853619388416 …

im not arguing that christians did an especially good job of this but being able to point to "love thy neighbor as thyself" as a culturally agreed upon imperative is something that would be nice you know

Liberalism (in the old sense) stems from the understanding that diversity (in the old sense, as an ensemble of behaviors/beliefs/strategies) is an engine of economic growth. But it's very unnatural for humans, and requires cultivation of values like tolerance, peace, humility...

...and most of all, minding your own fucking business, which is the fusion of the three. Communism goes straight for the carotid of minding-your-own-business and tears it out.

Oh, I forgot to make my actual point. >:-[ My point: The Discourse may hear "tolerance, peace, and humility" and associate that with Christianity, and, no. It's closer to the three jewels of Taoism. And Christianity isn't a mind-your-own-business religion in the least.

Not sure what you mean by recent events, but to repeat (what I meant by the 'only survives' line), it's extremely vulnerable to fashionable idiocy and low-quality oligarchs trying to cut the goose open to get at the golden eggs.

I think I realized that this country is doomed when the cold war ended and Bill and Hillary started talking about all the wonderful things they were going to do with the "peace dividend". Letting people spend their own money was never an option.

Wilson was the theory, FDR was the (bumbling, always-wrong-never-in-doubt) practice.
