Not sure he's making a good point in the post though. He's just making a bunch of assumptions about what the appropriate emotional reaction should be based purely on his own reaction and ideology, and then refusing to trust anyone who doesn't share his, regardless of the merits.

Why should hawks be sorrowful in order to be reasonable? What if they just came to the value judgement that death in war isn't a tragedy, or that it's worth it on aggregate? Why would someone who is weepy over deaths in war be trusted in matters of war?
