Everyone knows that it is "human nature" for "good people" do "bad things" for what they "think" are "good reasons". Well, maybe this is the sort of thing that can be rectified by good ideology or by good social norms?

Sadly, the quoted tweet is about as textbook a case of Homo Hypocritus as I've seen. "I don't care personally, I just happen to agree with a thing that already happened but I had no part in." Eigen's carefully cultivated cultural norms were not enough!https://twitter.com/parafactual/status/1383283126508560390 …

Another example: "Humans will sexually imprint on anything" It's hilarious when you see someone on the internet with a wonderbread fetish, but remember our friend the rabbit? Investigate the depths of tumblr if you dare... Some things cannot be unseen.https://twitter.com/0x49fa98/status/1360326576345350145 …

If you keep noticing these things you are slowly and inexorably drawn to the "Repugnant Conclusion" that gay people and trans people are just another example of our biological system's shortcomings. You get some spicy race takes too. I say this not to endorse but to explain.

The reason I'm carrying so much water for
@0x49fa98 is because this ideology of his that I've been alluding to constitutes the antithesis of a vitally important dialectic. It's important to listen to that sort of person. (also I really really like his fiction)1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
Postrats freaking love this comic, and I do too. Mickey clearly has the upper hand. It feels good to stop neurotically speculating about the base layer of reality and embrace your emotions and vibe. The comic makes me feel a bit fired up.pic.twitter.com/UoWplnBxzC

The full comic tells a different story. No matter what you tell yourself, nature wins in the end, and you never really had a choice. I won't insult Zero by saying he is like Donald, but I think if he was portrayed in the depressive modality instead of the manic one it would fit.pic.twitter.com/e7nKm8p25t

The question we are all ultimately concerned with is: "What's it like to be alive? To live well?" On one hand, life is joyous. I love my family and friends, I love to smell the air and move my body and read books and think and talk about what the purpose of all this is.

On the other hand, life is cruel. It just plain is. It is unbearably, heartrendingly cruel. The cruelty goes deep down into our DNA. It can feel GOOD to be cruel. I envy the people who are able to walk around in ignorance of just how bad things can be.https://twitter.com/dal_nulla/status/1233541578658078720 …

What does a synthesis of life's omnipresent joy and cruelty look like? I guess now I have to do a thread on Jesus Christ.
