noticed something. ime the Status of a restaurant can be determined by the number of choices available to a diner in setting the meal's parameters. the lowest-status restaurants let you customize your meal; the highest-status don't even give you a menu

Vaguely apropos: a friend of my ex once treated herself to a much more expensive haircut than usual. As she wanted to discuss the haircut, the guy basically told her he needs no input from her and knows what to do. Came out with her best haircut ever.

Place I used to go to near Tokyo, you'd sit at the counter and the guy would give you food, not only did he not need your opinion on what to make, he said he didn't want to hear from the customer whether it tasted good. Said he's the professional, he decides whether tastes good
