The problem with ‘reenchantment’ is the “re” part i.e. the fact that it’s a LARP on top of not really believing in the stuff. Also the ‘enchantment’, blessing things w meaning bc you find them meaningless w/o the new mental behavior “Believing in demons for real” isn’t like thishttps://twitter.com/magicianbrain/status/1380844280378445829 …

i am officially over "re-enchantment" : "egregores are literal demons made of memes" "asking someone to pass the salt is literally casting a spell on them" "if u do something daily that's a ritual" "aliens are fae" : no more of this

i legitimately think that egregores are real entities in the same way that humans are real. id be happy to talk more about this if you like.

combine some of the following 1. the concept of emergent phenomena 2. parallel processing metaphors 3. the generalized study of those things that reproduce themselves none of this stuff is really revolutionary, including ideas in (3) was actually dawkins ('memes')

a demon (or tulpa) is a semi-autonomous cognitive process running on one compute substrate and a god (or egregore) is a semi-autonomous cognitive process distributed across multiple compute substrates

wikipedia on emergence (1) which i emphasize for the observation that phenomena can operate on multiple levels (eg humans chemically and biologically) and the maximally-reduced level isnt always the salient one

another essay that influenced my thinking on this was on forms of life higher than humans. the author identified cities here, eg as viewed from a skyscraper corporations also fit here, imo

overall egregores influence the physical world via human substrates, and seem along some dimensions to operate in parallel to biological ecological models i don't think they're well-characterized exactly but i think it makes sense to view them as real entities

Corporations, currency, religion, states... All manifest a tangible effect in proportion to the strength of belief (to come back to @michaelcurzi ’s point) The lore behind it need not be mechanistically correct but only capable of inspiring belief
