It seems awfully irrational to criticise teaching methods based on likeness to a parental relationship. "Nice skillset, your professor pick it out for you?" isn't valid criticism of the skillset or the concept of authority driven education

Getting back, we were musing as to why, instead of scientists or doctors or any number of things, all the kids wanted to be teachers. I'm a big fan of syllabus and direct instruction! Active Inquiry Based learning takes that from them, but I was being cutesy expressing it.
