Pretty big deal. I imagine economic sanctions could get interesting between our allies and China. This might end up being the accelerant towards a more global hostile footing (which I think is already warranted) with China if they push the issue. Guessing they tread carefully tho

If China has half a brain, which we presume they do, and is patient, which we know they are, they won't cross this obviously critical demarcation yet. We're still far too reliant on this supply chain to let it go. Over time I imagine we remedy degrees of this issue and they

So the problem I have with all of this talk is that these chips basically flow back into China to be assembled by the ODMs anyway. It’s really just them controlling more of the vertical. That said it is a strategic resource at the margin and things are tight now already

I still think Taiwan itself is merely a pretense that masks the real issue: the South China Sea. China wants it, the US won't let them have it. That's the issue that will lead to great power war. Taiwan is merely the spark that starts the fuse burning.
