this is probably a major factor to watch also which populations are going there i can imagine a future where its mostly corrupt foreign officials' kids who havent gotten the memo and are willing to pay top dime for a passé pedigreehttps://twitter.com/mndl_nyc/status/1380477435792257030?s=19 …

i take back what I said about watching admissions rates. way too easy to game and the schools have too much invested in them as a measure of prestige probably better to watch how hard they're gaming them (waiving application fees, soliciting applications from weak candidates)

the addition of tech as a viable prestige/wealth path is probably a big factor you don’t have to go to an Ivy and get into consulting/IB anymore

I think they've become even more high status among a certain demo and much, much lower status among others The competition is greater for people opting-in and the stakes feel even higher Applications boomed for undergrad and grad programs

Relative to the aughts, yes, because it’s more obvious now than ever before the best way to get in is through nepotism or grievance, but still basically high status because “set for life” narrative still basically works.
