seems like modern marxists dont actually valorize the lower classes which is interesting like there arent a lot of shows about virtuous poor people struggling against a materially cruel world this used to be a top five trope

yeah not all the way to valorized, for sure interesting that the other movie that came to mind was also not American — “the wandering earth” it certainly valorizes... something (Look at me ignoring red dotted lines because this is one case where I agree with American spellinpic.twitter.com/WfvkX67BMd

I wonder what a 2021 remake of Trading Places would be like, shudder. That’s going to be a thing if I go look, isn’t ithttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trading_Places …

Fun fact: my wife (who came form a very poor background) left that movie thinking the rich family was awesome and the poor family sucked.

Yeah like probably unrelated to your wife's experience but the most based and redpilled among us walked out hailing it as the next Atlas Shrugged, it was so weirs

I think there is very little straight-up valorization in film these days in general, because morally grey stories are in. Out of all the movies and series I've seen in the last few years, very few had genuinely virtuous heroes.
