so historically you could resolve disputes between states with a conventional war. that was fairly effective one way or another but nukes have fucked that up for major powers. very difficult to go to war with a nuclear power if you are a nuclear power too. risky

I feel like this is true until it isn't. The thing about MAD is that it only takes one nuclear power to cross the line for it all to fall apart & the missiles to start flying. Especially nowadays when the number of nuclear powers has increased significantly.

But some of them are allies with countries that do. What immediately comes to mind is India/Pakistan. Pakistan is a Chinese ally, India is close to the US. Both of them are nuclear powers. Can we trust India & Pakistan not to start a nuclear war that draws in other nations?

same logic applies there really indian conventional military force seems overwhelming, theyre better off just waiting for pakistan to implode or continue to be a backwater or whatever
