I expect once the masks come off, everyone is going to catch head colds and get sicker than they expect off it the immune system equivalent of turning auto-update off for a year and a half and then applying all the patches at once :/

Outdoor “dirt time” would probably be a more effective, broad spectrum method. Get them hunting tadpoles and bugs!

Getting a dog takes care of much of this. Asthma and allergy rates are much lower in children whose families have furry dander-dispersing pets.

institutional consensus is the opposite of this, that exposure to pollutants/particulates is directly correlated to asthma development in children https://www.aaaai.org/conditions-and-treatments/library/asthma-library/air-pollution-asthma …

Probably a better way might be to make sure our kids get maximally filthy in nature (for allergen exposure) but have air that's clean from soot, ozone, etc.

Allergens and PM2.5 pollutants are two different things. On allergen side: I once read a study that found growing up with dog correlates with reduced allergies incidence.
