I really want to put together a list of post-lockdown legislation we should have. I want massively over-reaching, barely defensible stuff that makes people realize exactly how fucking crazy things got this last year.

Stuff like: Hospitals need to provide family access to patients who are willing to don PPE and accept the risk of infection. No one should die alone. Hospitals that don't do this are not eligible for Medicare reimbursement.

Stuff like: Schools that refuse to give an option for full-time in-person instruction will reimburse the families for the percentage of the education they were denied. If they don't do this, all universities in the state will be denied federal monies.

"Wait, that doesn't make any sense, you can't punish the universities for local school decisions" That's an excellent objection. It only suffers from the fact that I don't give a shit. School districts respond to pressure from the state. Put pressure on the state.

i literally cannot imagine a mother being separated from her newborn child that's in the NICU. i cannot even begin to imagine the anguish and rage and despair, and i cannot believe that medical professionals are doing this in good conscience, and yet they are
