I doubt very much that most people who are cancelled for example really believe that they acted against the laws of God, even if they apologize in abjection and without contrition what kind of forgiveness is possible anyway

Forgiveness is a form of negotiation: I offer contrition, and an implied promise to improve. If you accept, we can return to status quo ante. We don't understand this because of how focused we are on victims not having agency.

I went straight to Eigen's commentary when I saw who was being quoted. Stands on its own, you don't actually need the OP, and I think it's pretty easy to guess what's in it. (Our culture has no widely accepted forgiveness protocol. Knew that.)
