Do you think the gauge theoretic economics @EricRWeinstein talks about is potentially anything?

if it were good we would have already adopted it

Trickle down economics don't work eigen, at some point you need to admit that you actually want poverty to be a capital crime

if poverty could be solved we would have managed to do so after a hundred years of democratic socialism

We haven't had that and you know it. We've had fits and starts of attempted demsoc punctuated by regulatory capture.

regrettably I actually believe this. regrettably because if it seemed like there were a reasonable solution i would be enthused. to be clear i think we've made a lot of progress--poverty today isn't like poverty a hundred years ago. but

i suspect the remaining issues have less to do with problems that are easily handled by transfers (the bulk of spending!) and more to do with (i) genuine constraints on production of certain types of goods, and (ii) persistent personal and social traits not amenable to govt help

(i) is something that you can grow out of and that would probably helped by a more laissez faire system, naturally at the cost of progress on some other kind of poverty (ii) is basically intractable barring further technological progress and then maybe morally intractable

I'd say it's more likely that (i) is mostly artificial and becomes more so as oil becomes less important; poor people are much easier to oppress.

(ii) is what my project attempts to specifically address. Getting demsoc working and moving the world closer to peace/anarchy requires that we give the wealthy a way to play their game in a way that doesn't destroy the material stability of the poor.
