when they do things like participate in censorship regimes or whatever by and large it is expensive and first order contrary to making money. generally, censorship is a defensive move. the main question is what they are defending themselves against

treating them as neutral platforms is regrettably not remotely in the cards :/ and may never have been. mass media have always been heavily regulated in practice no matter how free they were ostensibly
