It looks like any one buyer could bid higher for chips vs other buyers, but the mfr's need months to years to ramp up relevant capacity to meet overall demand.

Chip companies bn skyrocketing this year and will probably continue to. I have to imagine more companies aren't far behind Tesla in beginning production of their own proprietary chips at this point. The demand is through the roof in perpetuity in today's world for everything chip

This seems to be more about ECUs on old nodes, not complex SOCs on advanced nodes, so switching to a Tesla-like architecture (2-3 big SOCs, instead of 100 ECUs) should be positive for supply, bc you're less dependent on old nodes.

I know it's to keep costs down, but it kind of amazes me that so many companies rely on the "just in time" supply method to keep themselves running with how volatile it is. Especially in markets where the resources you need take such a long time to manufacture.
